Chicago’s Longest Running Fringe Festival

The 30th Annual Rhinoceros Theater Festival

January 18–February 24, 2019
at the Prop Thtr

If you are interested in submitting a proposal for a performance slot in the 2019 Rhinofest, which will run January 18–February 24, every day of the week except Tuesdays, please write an email to detailing your idea. The curating committee will begin its formal process in October, but meanwhile we will provide you with an appropriate application form, answer questions and provide you a contact person to consult on your developing performance application. We seek original performances of new work that are low in technical requirements (due to festival setting) and under 75 minutes in duration. The Rhinofest is largely DIY for performances, while the Festival takes over box-office and supplements your publicity. Send us your proposed idea now!

The 30th Annual Rhinoceros Festival is produced and curated by Curious Theatre Branch and Prop Thtr. The Rhinofest provides production and exhibition opportunities to hundreds of artists, drawing thousands in attendance each year. The longest-running multi-arts fringe festival in Chicago, the Rhino features works in theater and performance from Chicago companies and national artists alike.

First organized in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago, the Rhino is unique among national fringe festivals in that artists are never charged a fee to participate, and each year our programs are individually curated by a rotating selection committee composed of Curious and Prop artistic leaders, led by Beau O’Reilly, rather than selected on a lottery basis.
