However, the festival is on temporary hiatus from its regular production schedule, in consideration of the health and safety of our performers, audiences, and broader communities.

Each year, Curious Theatre Branch and Prop Thtr curate and produce the Rhinoceros Theater Festival, which provides production and exhibition opportunities to hundreds of artists, drawing thousands in attendance each year. The longest-running fringe festival in Chicago, the Rhino features works in theater and performance from Chicago companies and national artists alike.
First organized in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago, the Rhinofest is unique among national fringe festivals in that artists are never charged a fee to participate, and each year our programs are individually curated rather than selected on a lottery basis.
We of the Curious Theatre Branch, along with our friends and collaborators, are committed to producing the Rhinoceros Theater Festival again live and properly when that is possible; in the meantime, we remain committed to encouraging and helping develop new, independent works of the imagination (which often found a home or a starting point in the Rhino), using the media, mentorship, and safe alternatives left to us. We will be looking toward what is possible in 2021.
