Lily and Josie are two young women at sea in modern-day London. Wandering the earth without family or connections, dealing with young motherhood and instability, they are followed by the Skriker—an ancient, shape-shifting fairy—and her coterie of underworld friends. Look for such fairyland favorites as the Brownie (a helpful house-elf), Kelpie (a sinister aquatic horse) and Rawheadandbloodybones (you know him) in Caryl Churchill’s dark fairytale—originally devised in 1994 for three actors and a company of dancers—which traces themes of mental illness, environmental degradation, and the crumbling social support systems that continue to haunt our civilization.
