Curious Theatre Branch 2007 Season
A Blade, a Coat, and a Loaf of Bread
written by Scott Barsotti, Matt Rieger, Buddy Rivara, and Adam Rosenberg
Directed by Beau O'Reilly
Developed out of a collaborative workshop in Ballyvaughan, Ireland, this series of interwoven vignettes crosses boundaries of time and place, finding a vibrant and violent grey area in which characters combat the phantoms of the past and the future in an instant, and land, language, and loot are all reallocated. Cliffs disappear and hairbrushes arrive by the crateful. The old stories become impossible to remember, and there are no new ones. Some hair gets shorn. Some ducks get fed. The cast features Debbie Safeblade, Casey Cunningham, Matthew Test, Beau O'Reilly, Scott T. Barsotti, Matt Rieger, Buddy Rivara, Adam Rosenberg.
also on the bill:
a Petit Cabaret... Beau O'Reilly dips into the Maestro Subgum and the Whole songbag, with fellow musicians Matt Test and June Shellene. Shellene formerly of the pop-duo Rocco and June, was a Lincoln Avenue stalwart along with O'Reilly in the 80s. This concert acts as a companion piece to the play, but is sure to ramp-it-up as O'Reilly summons inspiration from his alter-ego Lefty Fizzle—a fringe phenomena when They Might Be Giants, Wilco and Andrew Bird were just punks. Beau banters, and croons le ballad cabaret . Previews February 9-10 Opens February 16-March 17

Room
written by Jenny Magnus
"Room" is an evocation of the quality of spaciousness; a song performance that locates itself in the voice of Jenny Magnus, both as a writer and as a singer. What is it about the need for room to breathe? Created around songs about the experience of excavating room for one's self, the simplicity of being present; that's all, no big deal, just being present for all the stories and moments one accumulates by living. Jenny ekes out some space for those stories in "Room" Part of Estrogen Fest 2007.
Truck on a Roll
written by Beau O'Reilly
With the voices of Chicago All-Star Fringe, and Beau O'Reilly as "Truck."
Truck Bloom, the ex-boxer and street-smart philosopher of O'Reilly's critically acclaimed Truck In Pieces is back, drinking again, living on the street, almost staying warm at the corner Laundromat. When Nice Guy Al, a nice guy, offers Truck and his new friend Danny Bits a place to stay over the Laundromat, will they be able to keep it together or will they once again land among the homeless? A dark comedy for those who enjoy pugilism, The Christian Science Monitor, and daydreaming while you're still out on your feet.

The Madelynn Plays
written by Beau O'Reilly
Six acts, 3 generations, and at least 40 actors, performed over 3 nights! The story of the McGuffins, six siblings baffled by middle age and the anguished hilarity of their hearts and heads in motion. Madelynn, ex-wife of at least two of the McGuffins, is disappointed with everything and annoyed with her cat. So she ends it all.
The McGuffin clan reunites for the first time in decades at her funeral in part one: Madelynn Dangles the Noose. Frank the Flame, the missing McGuffin patriarch, returns to the family and organizes a series of races in part two: The McGuffins Run the 440. And in the third play: Hittin' the Bricks, Michael McGuffin becomes a dead serious performance artist and hangs himself by the ankle from the Empire State Building while his many children, nieces and nephews try to turn life around in the city that never sleeps.
